Bhavishyath Counselling

Bhavishyath Counselling is an NGO set up to provide career guidance to underpriviledged youth and help them to find a life direction. We do career guidance sessions for youth of Rayalseema districts in Andhra Pradesh. We also aim to provide thought leadership to the sector through innovative projects.

Why Career Guidance

Most of us have felt confused at some point during our education and early career while making life choices. A similar problem is felt by youth from underpriviledged and marginalized backgrounds. They also have some problems that are unique to them.

At the level of society, good career guidance reduces the dropout rate in education and jobs, corrects the cultural bias against skill-based livelihoods, corrects demand/ supply imbalances in the job market and leads to a happier society.

The Problems

  • Low awareness of emerging jobs and professions
  • Few opportunities to discover and nuture interest and talent
  • Few role models
  • Particular challenges for girl students in pursing higher education and career
  • Career guidance often comes from poorly informed members of immediate family and friends circle
  • Government jobs are the aspiration, but there are very few of these

What We Do

We have been running a group career guidance module to students of government higher secondary schools (“Junior Colleges”).  With this session as a base, we want to deepen  our work by adding more activities that give further guidance to youth.

Our consultancy projects include making career guidance films and creating a career psychometric test. We have made a database of educational institutions in the district. We run a Facebook page with useful job and course updates for youth. We give 1-on-1 counselling to students who reach out to us on phone or person.

Career Guidance Module

Our flagship programme is a 2-hour career guidance session that we run in government junior colleges. In the session we use films, presentations, written work and discussion to cover a variety of topics around careers, courses and goals. Our survey after the session shows that 74% of the students found the session “Very Useful”.

In 2019 we ran the session in ALL government junior colleges in the district of Anantapur (barring special institutions like Model Junior Colleges), reaching more than 6000 students. This has been a major achievement for us. The reception has been very positive from students, teaching staff and school managements. In 2020 our goal is to expand to 2 more districts.
